The knife and bat both have very fast charge times, at cost of range. To be completely honest, aggression in stealth has much more to do with individual skill than weapon choice, but some weapons can make it easier. But I hate not being able to sprint melee so I never run it. Spear has its uses, although I think they removed its ability to multi-kill (?) so that sucks. But I like having the hammer to make scout killing at any angle possible. But the hammer can still clear rooms almost as quickly while not gimping you against bigs.īat is pretty good too. It can be worth having one person on the team run it for the speed and noise reduction. It's slightly faster at clearing smalls and makes timing easier with its quick charge up. To get good with the hammer you need to learn the minimum amount of charge to kill each small enemy instead of always going for full charges. The other melees do some of these things slightly better, but at a detriment to their ability to do other things. Chain kill smalls, 1hk chargers, solo bigs, 2nd lowest risk for killing scouts, sprint kill. Hammer is simply the best because you can do anything with it. Play solo w/bots so you can have all the stealth kills to yourself and just practice. I personally am comfortable with scout kills in general, but I’ve never killed a shadow scout with the bat before.Īs for how to play more aggressive stealth melee all I can say is do some research on sleeper’s behavior so you know what will and won’t wake them, then start pushing your boundaries to learn how the stats transition to gameplay. Illuminating the scout’s model as you’re approaching to melee is fairly simple with the hammer or spear, but it’s difficult to tell which direction the scout is facing(scouts do not always face their direction of travel) which is important since the knife and bat require occipital headshots to scout kill. The second is around shadows, the scout specifically. The first is around chargers, it is impossible to OHK them and stealth requires a follow up swing which is a small skill hurdle but is worth mentioning regardless. There are two scenarios where the bat suffers: The bat is just a slightly slower knife that doesn’t handicap you around giants. The bat’s stagger multiplier makes you an effective assist when meleeing giants since they cannot attack or scream while staggered, and on the higher end of the skill spectrum solo killing giants is not only possible but feasible. The main difference between the bat and knife is the stagger multiplier, which guarantees stagger on most enemies. I’m a bat main, the bat has a charge time slightly slower than the knife while having similar damage (full charge to the head kills small sleepers/back of head kills scout). I could write several paragraphs on melee gameplay but instead I’m just gonna tell you my favorite melee and why, as well as the situations in which it sucks.
